Around the Clay – Rotterdam

In 2025, Alcides Morais, ceramicist who continues the tradition passed on to him by women in his family, travelled to Rotterdam. There, the ceramic tradition was embodied together with people from diverse diasporic identities. At community centre Post West, encounters took place with members of the first generation of Cape Verdeans who migrated to the Netherlands. Within this shared practice, memories were recalled and, after an interruption of approximately 75 years, clay was once again shaped according to traditional forms and techniques.
